Bug #11868
openUV-5G Plus (use Radioddity UV-5G Plus) No communication
0%
Description
(Describe what you were doing)
Attempting to download the radios files (For unlocking)
(Describe what you expected to happen)
Downloaded Files
(Describe what actually happened instead)
“[No communication]Radio did not respond. Check cables and Adapters]”
However, the radio itself entered USB mode and the screen indicator showed a PC with a data link on the screen. After 2 seconds, after the message from CHIRP app, returned to normal.
(Has this ever worked before? New radio? Does it work with OEM software?)
I am using MacOS with Both Silicon Labs CP210x & CH340 VCP drivers and neither work any better, both have the same results.

As the error states, I can confirm from the debug log that CHIRP is getting absolutely nothing from the radio at all, which points to cabling or connectors, assuming you've really got a UV-5G Plus

Hey Dan, you must use the Baofeng UV-5RH drivers in chirp in order to connect to this radio.
It is currently listed as using the Radioddity drivers, which is incorrect.
I have used the UV-5RH without any issues. But maybe you should test it before hand.

Perhaps there are multiple versions of this floating around because I can assure you that it has been tested as needing the GM5RH driver (which is what the 5G Plus is currently a child of). Radioddity has also confirmed that the Baofeng and Radioddity versions are the same and expected to be used with the GM5RH driver.
But maybe you should test it before hand.
I'm not sure if you're suggesting that I just randomly add things to the support matrix without confirmation or something, but... I don't.

"But maybe you should test it before hand.”
No I didn’t mean it like that. I meant that I have no clue as to what this thing does or how it works and that I have no way of testing it fully before advising you to add Baofeng UV-5RH Driver to the list of possibilities for the Baofeng K5 Plus, and that you should probably go through it since I haven’t the ability to do so with my current knowledge of this thing.
