Description

Trying to sync my new Baofeng UV-5G Plus radio

When I try and read or write from to the radio it fails.

I don't see my model of radio in the list to choose from.
The help me button does detect the com 3 port good.

Has never worked yet as this is the first time trying this new radio.
I have searched your faqs and forms but everyone with my type of radio is having the same issues.

Thank You

Harry

The model is not expected to be in the list, which is why the front page of the website indicates that you should use the alternate model (which you're doing).

Your debug log shows some noise or junk coming across the serial line. Some things to try:

  1. Be sure that the connector is fully plugged into the radio. Many of these cheap radios have ill-fitting plugs and seem to be seated when they are not. See Error-NO_CONNECTION_K1 for some details.
  2. Is the radio transmitting RF when the connector is plugged in or when chirp starts the download? If so, that indicates a problem
  3. I assume you've tried downloading again immediately after the error you reported, without touching any cabling, power cycling the radio, etc?
  4. Have you tried this cable with any other radios, or this radio with any other cable, or the combination with any other software?

Hi Dan,
I have not tried this radio with any other cable as both are new to me and have never been used before.
I did not have the cable inserted all the way the first time I tried this but I do make sure it's all the way in now and plugged in right.
I do not use the radio transmit etc when plugged in.
I have not used the cale before as this is all new equipment for me and this is all I have to use.

What model should I be using from the list for chirp to work with my current radio sense mine is not in the list.
Have other people been able to get my model of radio to work with Chirp? Has Chirp been able to get this radio t work with Chrip?

Thank You

The front page of this site says this:

  • UV-5G Plus (use Baofeng GM-5RH) ...which is what you're doing. The cheap manufacturers have definitely released entirely new radios under the same name as an old one, which obviously won't communicate the same way. However, I don't think that's what's going on here.

Just in case you don't have exactly the radio you think you do, I would try these models in chirp to see if any of them will talk to it:

  • Radioddity UV-5G
  • Radioddity UV-5G Plus

Try each a few times in a row as sometimes trying the wrong model can confuse the radio so it's not ready to talk when you try the next one.

And yes, all of the models on the front page listed as supported have been confirmed by actual users or developers.

Thank you for the update.

I will try each one of those a few times and if they don't work I will send an error report for each and maybe you can get a better idea of what may be happening.

Thank You

As I mentioned on the new bug, please do NOT open new bugs for each one. Use "existing bug" and put in this number: 11753
