Bug #11479
closedCHIRP next-20240814 allows lower case on Yaesu FT-70DR
100%
Description
Error first noted on CHIRP next-20240814 (MAC OS)
So - In the case of the Yaesu FT-70DR, in previous versions, lower case characters were automatically changed to Upper case in the UI for the NAME field. I added names to some new "channels" where I created a few entries and noticed it permitted me to have lower case names. I left them as that - lower-case.
Once uploaded to the radio, and after reboot, what you get is either blank spaces or stange garbage characters for that channel on the disply. It is not fatal, but mildly annoying. I came back home and change to upper-case characters and re-uploaded. It's all good.
This is the opposite of the Radtel RT-490 where the radio supports upper/lower-case but the application will automagially convert-lower case names to upper-case

The driver definitely intends to provide lowercase support, and the manual doesn't indicate what the supported characters are. Knowing (a little about) that radio, I would agree that it seems like it should only support uppercase.
Can you try the attached module with LoadingTestModules and see if that appears to work? It won't fix existing channels, but should cause CHIRP to coerce everything to uppercase.

Hello Dan,
Just an FYI – This new ft70.py does, indeed immediately convert the text to uppercase in the “Name” field.
Thanks!!!
