Description
hello, i have been using your wonderful software for years. the lastest version "CHIRP next-20240322" you can no longer SORT columns.. what happened?? that was a great feature on previous versions..
thanks for the great work...
You most certainly can sort by column. The process is just different that it was in 'classic' CHIRP. It allows you to sort ranges of memory rows. Please watch this video: Advanced Editing in CHIRP video.
Note: To sort a whole column you would have to remove any gaps in the programmed memory rows by using Cluster nn memories and then sort by selecting the now single group of programmed memory rows using Sort nn memories (where nn is the number of programmed memory rows).
Wow.. great video.. thanks..BUT.. still one thing missing.. you can not sort the entire layout by frequency or name. The "sort 1000 channels" is gray not black..=================================================Sincerely, Robert M. Peloza Sr.* Robert F. The sorting in chirp-next as pictured in the video is re-ordering memories according to some field, so sorting them in the radio as well. You can't sort all 1000 memories (likely) because you have selected some blanks, which doesn't really make sense.
Right now chirp-next doesn't support a "sortable view" where the memories are just re-ordered on the screen but not in memory. This is sort of fundamental to how the new UI works and thus offering a sortable view isn't really an option right now. However, there is a search function which makes it much easier to find something you're looking for instead of sorting it to find it yourself (which is one thing people use sorting for a lot).

That's why I included the "Note". You remove the gaps with the Cluster option then you simply click row 1 to highlight it, shift-click the last programmed row to highlight them all and then use Sort. That is the "entire layout".
Bob, can you confirm that you're looking for sorting of the display and not actually rearranging memories in your radio? Legacy chirp did the former, but not the latter. Chirp-next can do the latter, but not the former.
If so, I we should convert this to a feature request (i.e. not a bug). I'm not sure I have much appetite to invite the complexity required to make display-only sorting work, but we can let this live as the request for it, even if it's indefinitely blocked. I'll at least put some effort into seeing how bad it is.
If, however, you're looking for actual rearranging the memories in your radio. Jim's instructions are spot on.
- Is duplicate of Feature #10750: Column sorting (for display purposes only) added
- Status changed from New to Rejected
Going to mark this as a duplicate of #10750
