I read the instructions above:

Description

I have my editor set to change unknown file types that are UTF-8 to use a BOM. Then when I saved the config file, CHIRP threw a mysterious (at the time) error, saying that the first line had an error. Of course, the BOM didn't appear in the editor, so I was puzzled at first. When I twigged to the possible cause, I toggled the BOM, and that worked. CHIRP does the same for csv files.

Thanks Rich, I should have looked at my other emails before responding on the list :)

Can you attach a file that causes the problem just so I can make sure I'm testing what you're using? UTF-8 and UTF-16 have different BOMs.
