Squelch (Tone, etc)¶

With no specific signaling, "Carrier Squelch" is used (sometimes shorted as CSQ). In CHIRP, this is represented by an empty Tone/TSQL column

The following are interchangeable terms for tone-based squelch signaling:

• Tone/TSQL (CHIRP)
• CTCSS (Continuous Tone-Coded Squelch System)
• PL (Motorola Private Line)
• QT (Quiet Tone)
• CG (Channel Guard)

The following are interchangeable terms for digital coded squelch signaling:

• DTCS (Digital Tone Coded Squelch)
• DCS (Digital Code Squelch)
• DPL (Motorola Digital Private Line)
• DQT (Digital Quiet Tone)

Mode¶

• FM: "Wide" FM for two-way communications (i.e. 5 kHz deviation)
• NFM: "Narrow" FM for two-way communications (i.e. 2.5 kHz deviation)
• WFM: "Wide" FM for broadcast communications (i.e. ~100 kHz deviation)
• AM: "Narrow" AM for two-way communications (i.e. aircraft band in the US)
• DV: Icom's digital D-STAR mode
• DN: Yaesu's SystemFusion digital voice mode
• USB/LSB: Upper or Lower Sideband
