Bug #8523
closedDownloading new update versions

Description
I'm new to this. The download guidance says that you do not have to delete/uninstall an old version of CHIRP when attempting to download a new updated version. I have tried that over the past couple of updates and I get many many errors during the download and install, and then when I try to use the CHIRP program, it doesn't work properly and locks up. When I downloaded the very 1st it seemed to work, but for all updates it causes problems.. Then I have to uninstall and delete my current version and download the newer version and then is seems to work OK. Am I doing something wrong? Or are there any optional suggestions?

This is correct. You do not have to "delete/uninstall" CHIRP to upgrade to a new version. But all instances of CHIRP must be closed be for attempting to upgrade it. Open files cannot be replaced and computer will report errors when the installer tries to replace them.
