Bug #7745
closedDownload page instructions for "brew" on macOS don't work
0%
Description
Instructions on download page (https://chirp.danplanet.com/projects/chirp/wiki/Download) for installing on macOS via brew do not currently work. The instructions say:
Homebrew users can install Chirp without the KK7DS runtime by running brew install tdsmith/ham/chirp and then running chirp from the terminal.
Running brew install tdsmith/ham/chirp
results in the following output:
brew install tdsmith/ham/chirp Updating Homebrew... ==> Auto-updated Homebrew! Updated Homebrew from 78140cef4 to ef12e329a. Updated 3 taps (homebrew/core, homebrew/cask and homebrew/services). ...
It seems that pygtk has been removed from brew:
$brew search pygtk No formula or cask found for "pygtk".

Hi Seth,
I think that running CHIRP using Homebrew is obsolete. I believe that the MacOS Unified Application build is now the recommended way to run CHIRP on a computer running macOS.

Sounds good. If that's the case that Homebrew isn't recommended, and at least in my case the instructions don't seem to work, can the Download page instructions be updated?

I just updated the Downloads instructions. I'm not a Mac user, so please double-check what I wrote (eh, stole from here) and let me know if it should be rephrased. Thanks!
