Description
I've recently bought a BF888S, with a prolofic cable (XA chip).
What ever the driver cable, the cable is well recognized, but impossible to reach th radio.
I've tests the latest version of CHIP ant BF-480 software, but no way, the radio PC can't reach the radio.
error messages :
chirp : radio refuse to enter programming mode.
BF480 : check yours connection and port settings.
teste on WIN7 ant MAC OS 10.11
Impossible for me to set allowed frequencies in my country

I had this exact problem. Even though I bought a cable that has the word Baofeng printed on the plug, the chipset included in the cable simply would not work. I understand there are some counterfeit chips that found their way into some cables. I tried everything, downloaded drivers from others who said they had it working, even paid a 3rd party for drivers... No luck.
Finally, I purchased from Amazon the following cable, which made my setup work immediately:
