Description

I have programmed some BF-F9v2+ HT's but a friend got a new one I cant even download the channels from the radio.

The firmware on this radio is different then other radios with the same model number

BFP3-23
160328N

I had chirp set to BF-F8HP that has worked for the other radios. I am using linux mint.
This was done on Saturday using chirp daily that was current at that time.
I also tried setting the model to uv-82hp just to see if it would work and it did not.

I did not have a windows computer with me at the time so I have not tried the baofeng oem software but next time he brings the radio for programming I will try that.

Unfortunately pressing the [3] key while powering on the radio has not provided the "real" firmware version for many years.

The BF-F9V2+ has always been supported by CHIRP

From the Supported Models List on the CHIRP Home/Wiki page

  • BF-F8HP (3 power levels) Also includes the BF-F9V2+ <-- this is your radio Also includes the GT-3TP Also includes the UV-5R PLUS Also includes the UV-5RHP Also includes the UV-5RTP Also includes the UV-5R7W

That being said, Baofeng has been shipping radios with 3 power levels with a firmware version (HN5RV01) that has traditionally indicated that it is a radio with 2 power levels. For those radios you must choose UV-5R until a workable solution is found.
