Message: I just received a brand new BTECH UV-5X# radio, which I purchased through Amazon. The serial number is: UV5X30000804. I am running Windows 7, and have the latest build of CHIRP software, and am using the same cable that I use to program my other Baofeng radios (UV-5R).

I have tried several times to do the initial download from the radio to begin programming, and the computer seens the radio, but I get the following error message:

An error has occurred
Error reading data from radio; not the amount of data we want

Com settings as follows:

COM3
BTECH
UV5X3
I have reseated the cable several times to insure it is firmly plugged in.

Any suggestions?

Tom,

The debug log doesn't tell me anything useful. Anyway, would you have been successful at one time and possibly set one or more of the band limits to 1 (or 101, 201, 301, ..., 901)? If you did, that is most likely the problem and a patch was just accepted a few minutes ago that will fix that issue. It should be available in tomorrow's CHIRP daily build.

Tom,

Ignore the above. I am working on too many radios at once and that problem is not related to your radio.

Understood, Jim...and thanks. Note: I was able to connect and do the initial download, and a subsequent upload of frequencies using a different laptop. Interestingly, the 2nd laptop is using the same version of Windows 7, and I used the same cable. The only difference: on the first laptop, I downloaded the daily build using the Windows installer. On the 2nd laptop I downloaded the daily build using the Zip file version. I have since gone back on the first laptop and downloaded the daily build using the Zip file version...but still no joy. I have a workaround, and am able to program right now, so it's not a critical issue, but something that apparently has affected at least one other user. Thanks again!

Tom, can this ticket be closed? Windows 7 is obsolete by now, and your particular issue seems to be unique. Please let us know.
