UV-82 - Split vs Offset Programming
Added by Justin Davis almost 9 years ago.
Updated over 5 years ago.
I read the instructions above:
Description
Using the daily build 20160719, the UV-82 (presumably also the UV-5R) is programming repeater offsets such as - 600khz as split frequency onto the radio. It is at least programming the split correctly.
- Status changed from New to Incomplete
Justin,
What do you mean by this? You can choose to program a repeater using +/- and offset or split and TX frequency. When the split is less then 70 MHz CHIRP will convert it to +/- and offset.

When programmed, the unit shows that it has been program as split with +- on the screen instead of showing programming with - and offset .600 for example.
Can this be closed?
Just as an additional explanation: "+" or "-" define an offset: when the device transmits, it will add or subtract the offset frequency (e.g. 600 kHz) to/from the receive frequency. Split is different: here you enter a second frequency which will be used when you transmit. Offset is not split.
- Status changed from Incomplete to Closed
That is how these radios work. The "+-" indication in the upper status display is to show the user that the RX frequency and TX frequency of the selected memory are not the same (as would be for a repeater, odd-split, cross-band or TX disabled channel).
You will only see individual "+" and "-" indications in VFO (frequency) mode where the SFT-D and OFFSET menus are functional.
