Description

When I try to download from my 8900, CHIRP reports "Radio didn't entered in the clone mode". The radio was in VFO mode and the directions the software gave as to connecting and turning on the radio were followed. It does work with the OEM software just fine. I am using a 64 bit version of Windows 7.

Hi Edward,

All the bits on the debug.log point to one direction: You may have a new variant of this radios (with a different Magic String). This is no strange, we recently found a new version of the BTECH UV-2501+220 and I'm sure we will find a few more in the future.

I need a serial log from you to better understand the issue and if it's a new variant to add it to Chirp. You will find instructions on how to do that in this link here in the wiki:

I have confirmation of a new batch of QYT KT8900 radios in the wild, it will be not supported on Chirp unless the users of this radios make a serial logs for it and send it to me or upload to this posts to process.

Instructions of how to do that are in the previous post in the link.

I too am having the same issue. My radio isn't that new (purchased 11/15), but who knows? I have attached a seria l log from portmon.

Thanks Michel,

At a glance it seems like you have one of the unknown units, I will process it now and get back to you in a few minutes, maybe with a sample driver to test...

This is for a read (download from radio to PC) let's keep our fingers crossed and beg they don't have changed the comm protocol for the upload...

Many Thanks in advance!

Michel, the unit you have of the QYT KT-8900 is a CLONE of the Waccom Mini-8900.

Try to read it as a Waccom Mini-8900 and then uploading to it, and please comment your results. Any comments on the setting parts with unexpected name changes for an option will be helpful.

Tried using the Waccom setting and it tells me "error reading data from radio". Tried in both Windows and Linux. It seems like a closer match though, since I can see the radio reset when I try to read from it.

Hi Michael,

Please follow the development of this issue in this link:

As we are duplicating efforts and this two issues are about the same bug. I have posted a dev version for evaluation there that might solve your problem, please report back on that issue, I will mark this issue as rejected (because it's duplicated, sorry it's my fault from the beginning.)
