The latest BF-A58 and UV-82WP radio models do not have any data in the region of memory that CHIRP expect to see the firmware version. This makes these radios incompatible with CHIRP. If you supply the debug.log we can confirm that this is the issue.

I am also having issues and need to resolve it ASAP. I'm attaching my debug file. Please let me know if there's anything else I can do to help.
Thanks!

After looking at the debug.log file I see that Steve was successful and downloading once.
The problem seems to be that the Baofeng radios have changes to where they no longer like to be sent one "magic" and then another "magic" until one is recognized. This works perfectly for my very old UV-5R that I have been programming with CHIRP for nearly 4 years.
Let me get you something in a few minutes to try.

- File uv5r_a58_test.py uv5r_a58_test.py added
- Platform changed from Windows to All
Alex and Steve,
1 save the attached file to where you normally save your .img files
2 load CHIRP
3 click "Help" and enable "Enable developer functions"
4 click "File" followed by "Load module"
5 locate and load the "uv5r_a58_test.py" file that was saved in step 1
6 attempt to download from your radio
After you have don't this, report your success or failure and we will go from there.

Chirp said it was the incorrect model and then the radio restarted.

Alex,
INFO: Radio Version is '\xff\xff\xff\xff\xff\xff\xff\xff\xff\xff\xff\xff\xff\xff'
Unfortunately, your radio is one of the recent models (BF-A58 and UV-82WP) that does not report a firmware version. I don't know of a way that CHIRP can support it.
