That error is usually an indication that the 2-pin plug is not fully connected with the radio. On some of the new Bofeng/Pofung radios, you have to press on the plug or even twist it slightly one direction or the other to make good contact internally.

As mentioned in my original ticket, I have already tried seating/unseating/reseating the plug and every possible application of force to the plug to make a connection. I am aware of this issue from previous Baofeng radios and I assure you this is not what is causing the problem.

My debug.log is attached.

Here is another debug.log, all I did was load CHIRP, attempt to download from the radio using the UV-5R profile (which failed), attempt again using the BF-F8HP profile (which also failed), then closed CHIRP.

Got it working. It's not a problem with the cable, that's for sure, and the port on the radio works with the shoulder mic so I don't think it's the radio either. I got it working but only by purposely tricking the software.

I noticed that when I tried to download from the radio using the (incorrect) UV-5R option, the first attempt gave me the "radio did not respond" error but a second attempt would give me a "wrong radio model" error. This meant that it was making some sort of connection with the radio, else it wouldn't know it was a different model. So, I tried downloading using the UV-5R option to get the "radio did not respond error" and then immediately tried to download again, but this time using the (correct) BF-F8HP option. Success!

I had to do the same thing to upload. After making a file for the radio, I once again attempted to download using the (incorrect) UV-5R option to get the "radio did not respond" error and then attempted to UPLOAD using the (correct) BF-F8HP option. This worked as well.

I did try to download/upload using the BF-F8HP model in hopes that the second time it would be successful, but this didn't work. The ONLY way I could upload was by selecting the UV-5R option and attempting a download, then correcting it to the BF-F8HP option and either uploading or downloading, whichever I was trying to do.

So, it seems pretty clear to me this indicates there is a bug in the software. I hope this information helps you find and fix it. I did include my debug.log file, but it's pretty loooooong.
