Description

Getting "Footer short read" and other random errors during download and upload.
One out of dozen or more attempts may succeed.
On Windows 10 same CHIRP, dongle and radio no problems whatsoever.
Is it a CHIRP problem or Linux kernel serial driver problem?

Definitely not a CHIRP problem. I use PL2303 dongles a lot on Linux during development. Also, CHIRP has no interaction with the USB side of things, it only works at the serial layer and has no idea what kind of chip your cable has.

Well, the same just started on Windows 10 as well. Multiple attempts required to pull data from radio. Any suggestions?

  • Subject changed from Chipr on LInux is not usable with prolific PL2303 dongle. to Chirp on Linux is not usable with prolific PL2303 dongle.

CHIRP doesn't know what USB chip is in use on Windows either. Did you perhaps change the firmware on your radio recently? That could do it, of course, or a failing cable or radio. Otherwise, no, I have no suggestions for you.

New radio and cable, no changes to firmware.

Here is the screen capture. Is there any way this behavior can be debugged to find out the real root cause? E.g. cable, radio or else?
