Description
Hi
Just got a new radio and it looks like CHIRP doesn't support the new FW it shipped with.
It is FW 3.00.17
My other radio with 2.X works fine

Hi Dan,
See the attached file (I had to rename it to .txt so that google would like
it go through)
Can I use the .py to load the radio in the meantime?

Please use the integrated tool (Help->Report or update a bug) for uploading images. It gives more information and avoids the file attachment problem.
No, it's read-only for the moment until we bless your firmware version. I'll have a look at your image, but can you go through in detail and make sure everything looks to match what's actually in your radio?

Okay, the image looks okay to me. If you want to give it a try, here's an updated version that blesses 3.00.x which will let you edit and upload. The risk is pretty low, but there is risk. If you are willing and able to test this for me, I'll get this integrated into the next build.

Could you be more specific? Have you made edits? Uploaded them?
Since I can't really do this myself, I'm hoping you'll be able to give it a good shakedown and give it your blessing. I'm also planning on a build tomorrow, so if you can let me know if you think you'll be able to do that, and by when (i.e. this evening or not) that would help. Obviously, no real pressure, it would just help me and users with 3.00.x firmware if you can :)
Thanks!

Sorry Dan. Newbie here.
Okay, so I used CHIRP to pull down the radio config
I copied over my frequencies from my UV-K5(8) radio img and pasted in the
new file.
I uploaded to the radio and everything "took"
I now went and played with the settings.
I adjusted it to how I like it, uploaded, it worked.
I did this a few times making different changes to make sure it all worked.
So far it's not given me any issues.
If you want to give me specific things you want me to try, I am happy to
help!
I have been using Chirp for my other radios and it's just been amazing.
My challenge these days is getting a reliable source of frequencies.

Funny thing
Quansheng just got back to me and provided FW 3.00.18
Want me to try it as well?
I don't mind

Tried it
No noticable issues
Have you seen a 4.x or 5.x ?
Quansheng made it sound like 3.00.18 is the latest.

Yes, but the problem is that modified firmwares for these radios are spreading like virii right now and there's no central coordination of what anyone says their firmware "version" is. The responsible ones have done things like prefix them with a different tag (i.e. "egzumer", etc). The irresponsible ones have not, and potentially worse, have just picked higher numbers. If Quansheng says that's the latest, that's definitely what I'd stick with, personally.

I've got two of these now.
One I want to leave stock.
Any recommendations for alternative fw?
Ezgumer seems like a good choice.
I don't want to unlock frequencies or do anything extraordinary.
Just something that makes the radio better.
