Bug #11397

No sound from radios after programming
Added by J T 5 months ago.
Updated 5 months ago.
Model affected:
Baofeng AR-152
I read the instructions above:
Yes
Description
I programmed three Baofeng AR-152 radios (10W) using CHIRP. I had to use the UV-5R model to get the channels to load. All of the channels and offsets are showing as expected, however, there is no sound. Any ideas? It sounds like it's muted, but I don't think that's the problem (according to the manual). Thank you!

Edit this is a hardware issue. You are unplugging the programming cable from the radio, right?
If yes, then it sounds like the programming cable is fouling up the 2.5mm jack of the radio. When the plug is inserted, a contact is lifted that socket that disconnects the internal speaker. When the plug is removed, the contact is supposed to return and reconnect the speaker. Seems like this isn't happening. This can be verified by using an eternal speaker/mic.

So do you think the programming cable is fouling up the 2.5mm jack of all three radios? I used different cables for each one (the one that came in each box, so I could make sure the programming cables worked).

It could be you got a batch of radios with defective sockets. Have you tried a speaker/mic to validate that the contact is the issue?
