Please try attached (includes the fix for your other issue so you can use this module until the next release).

If you would, please test:

  1. Memories created by the radio itself in both NFM, FM mode are read by chirp properly
  2. Memories created by chirp in both NFM, FM are interpreted by the radio properly
  3. Please test AM from both sources as well. I think this radio supports AM and NAM as well? If so, could you confirm both?

Any update on this? No real rush of course, but you were so quick with the other thing, I just want to make sure you saw it...

Oh, I'm sorry, I didn't get the notification email.

So, this is the situation, with the py module you just sent:
_Resetted memory radio;
_Manually writed 3 memories in radio (1=NFM, 2=WFM, 3=AM);
_Readed from radio in CHIRP (correctly read);
_Writed 4 memories in CHIRP (4=NFM, 5=FM, 6=AM, 7=WFM);
_Uploaded to radio.

In the radio now I have:
_MEM 1-3: AS MANUALLY STORED; (NO CHANGE)
_MEM4 (PROGRAMMED AS NFM): NO MODE INDICATOR; (AS BEFORE)
_MEM5 (PROGRAMMED AS FM): NFM INDICATOR; (AS BEFORE)
_MEM6: AM INDICATOR; (AS EXPECTED)
_MEM7: WFM INDICATOR. (AS EXPECTED)

N.B.: In the radio the only available modes are NFM, WFM, AM.
In the VX8 what we usually intend as "NFM" is the "HALF DEVIATION" (menu n.37). Unlike other radios there's no way to set a specific memory with half deviation, you can only activate or deactivate it in the "whole radio".
This is quite disappointing, because people usually need some channels in 12.5 Khz deviation (NFM) and others in 25 Khz (FM).

For this reason I was happy to see this memory-related option in CHIRP. Unfortunately I don't have any kind of spectrum analyzer to check the behaviour of the single channels when programmed in CHIRP, and I am not sure if the chirp setting has any effect on the channels.

So, if it is phisically impossible to change the mode, I suggest to reduce the choice in the module to the 3 only really accettable in the radio.

Note that in the VX8 the WFM mode is intended as the wide deviation for the broadcast radios.

Thanks

Matt

Hmm, okay the memory mapping has a knob for half-deviation, but that could be wrong. Is yours an original 8R, or a later 8DR, 8GR?

The radio is a fully expanded VX8DE, I think it's the EU version for 8DR!

Okay yeah, confirmed in the manual for the 8DR and locally with an 8GR. So I'll remove NFM from the options.

Also, just for posterity: I think you mean 2.5kHz deviation for NFM and 5kHz deviation for FM. The 12.5kHz and 25kHz respectively are the typical channel allocations for each of those emission modes. Just in case anyone is upset or concerned about the change tomorrow and finds this bug wondering what was removed.
