This is exactly the error you get when you try to download from a different radio than the UV-17 Pro GPS. A lot of vendors sell the UV-17 Pro, as if it is the Pro GPS. Are you sure you are trying to read the Pro GPS version?

One way to tell the version is if the letters on the "1" button have "ABC", then it is the Pro GPS. If the letters are "STEP", then it is a different version. Maybe a UV-17 Pro or a UV-17.

Try one of the other drivers then.

Let me know how it goes.

I am getting the same error. My radio looks to be the UV-17 Pro GPS. I have the three letters to the right of the number on the keypad. I am also able to get my coordinates by holding down the blue button. The cable I have works with my BTECH GMRSv1 radio just fine (both up and down.). I have tried using both UV--17 Pro GPS radios that I have and get the same error.

I cannot reproduce your problem, so that makes solving it very difficult. Did you try to read the radio with the CPS software? I know that there are also different types of cables for different radios, so that could also be the problem.

All I can see from the error log, is that the radio is not responding the way it should respond, in the first stage of communication.

Well it did not want to work. It is a GPS model as I did get GPS coordinates. I got frustrated so I turned off the computer and went to bed. I woke up this morning and it works now. I tried it about 8 times today and worked every time. Maybe it just needs to have the computer rebooted to work.
