Description

I have some issues setting up tones for UV-9G and UV-5G radios.
Using CHIRP I load the radio's channels, then when I set up Tone to "Cross" to receive and transmit, and "DTCS to DTCS". But after I save and open the file, settings changes to some sort of default. It also happens when setting for "Tone".
Is there anything I'm doing wrong? (see images)
Is there any video showing details on how to properly use each settings and functions?

Thank you,

It only uploaded one screenshot.
This image shows the setup before I save the file.

This is the image for the same file after I saved it, closed and re-opened it.
Any help will be deeply appreciated.

CHIRP is working as expected. The Tone Mode field is only set to Cross when the TX tone/code and RX tone/code are different.

In your example, you want to set both menu 10 (R-DCS) and menu 12 (T-DCS) to D255N in your radios. You tried to incorrectly program this by forcing 255 into both the DTCS Code and DTCS Rx Code fields. CHIRP recognized the mistake of having the same value for DTCS Code and DCTS Rx Code and automatically fixes the affected settings by adjusting their values to what they will be when correctly programmed.

When CHIRP is incorrectly forced to have the same DTCS code for DTCS Code and DTCS Rx Code like this...

Tone Mode: Cross
DTCS Code: 255 {<-- this value cannot be the same as DTCS Rx Code when using Tone Mode: Cross}
DTCS Rx Code: 255 {<-- this value cannot be the same as DTCS Code when using Tone Mode: Cross}
DTCS Pol: NN
Cross Mode: DTCS->DTCS

CHIRP recognizes the mistake and adjusts the programming to be consistent with what would be appropriate for when the same a DTCS code is used for both TX and RX.

Tone Mode: DTCS
DTCS Code: 255 {<-- this value will be used for both TX and RX}
DTCS Rx Code: {blank/not used}
DTCS Pol: NN
Cross Mode: {blank/not used}

After uploading to the radio, you can access menu 10 (R-DCS) and menu 12 (T-DCS) to confirm that both settings have been correctly programmed to D255N.

You might find the "Understanding CHIRP's columns":https://chirp.danplanet.com/projects/chirp/wiki/MemoryEditorColumns page in the CHIRP "Documentation":https://chirp.danplanet.com/projects/chirp/wiki/Documentation area helpful.
