Description

I have a BTech and a Baofeng HT and the cable that came with it. I open up CHIRP, turn off my radio, plug in the data cable to the USB port, go to Device Manager to Ports to see what com port it is assigned, see one device and I see this message for that device "PL2303HXA phased out since 2012. Please contact your supplier." If you click on it, it says the device is working correctly and that the driver has the most recent update from 11/27/2020. IS this cable bad? Do I have to go back to a previous driver? I have used this cable prior and did not even own it until 2017. This is the first time I have had an issue... Please advise.

You have a programming cable with an unauthorized copy of the Prolific PL2303HXA USB-to-Serial chip. The driver automatically installed by Windows is intentionally incompatible (hence the message you see). To use your programming cable with Windows Vista and later, you must download, install and select the older Prolific v3.2.0.0 device driver.

Other options would be to get a programming cable manufactured with a different chip (FTDI, Silicon Labs, WCH, etc) allowing you to use the latest device driver available from the chip vendor.

You get find links to the driver and instructions for installing and selecting it "here":http://www.miklor.com/COM/UV_Drivers.php.
