Was the file you are trying to upload originally created by downloading from your radio? If not, it needs to be.

I’m sorry I wasn’t clear. I cannot download the image from the radio to CHIRP in order to begin the programming process. (Note, I have the latest version of the program, and I am using a cable from BTech that I’ve used many times to program my UV-82HP.)

So then are you choosing MTC as the vendor and UV-5R-3 as the model? Choosing BTech as the vendor and UV-5X3 won't work.

No, I was using Baofeng as the manufacturer and UV-5R as the model (because I didn't see a 5R-3 listed. I didn't realize the MTC was listed separately. When I chose MTC I found the 5R-3 and Chirp copied the radio's memory sucessfully. I consider this issue resolved (user error), but as requested in the program, I am attaching a copy of my image.

Hi Richard,
It is good to see you have it sorted out. Have fun programming your radio with CHIRP.

I had the same problem, and this thread resolved it for me. Thanks! What threw me though, was that there is no mention of the UV-5R-3 on the wiki front/home page listing supported radios. I don't know if this is the right place to mention it and request an update (I'm a new user), but it would be helpful to those who have this radio and want to use Chirp to program it (as promoted by MTC on their page for it), if it was listed on the wiki page under a new MTC heading, or at least as one of the UV-5R variants under Baofeng (since that is how the radio itself is labeled), with a note letting folks know to use MTC as vendor from within the program.

It is listed now. Unfortunately it is a manually edited list. Thanks for pointing it out.
