Debug Log:
I read the instructions above:

Description

If I would open a .img file, located in a path containing german umlauts (e.g. "Funkgeräte"), nothing happens.
Also "Save As" is not possible, when german umlauts are in the path name. For this I get a "File Access Error" message.

Navigation to umlaut path is possible, also the selection of the file in the dialog windows (in both cases for opening and saving a file).

If the file name contains an umlaut, opening is not possible, too. However, saving is possible, but not with the expected output in filesystem. I expect the name "Funkgerät.img", but "Funkgerät.img" is what I am getting.

My current workaround is to avoid using german umlauts.

I have tested this behavior with "CHIRP daily-20171204".

Yes, this is a known issue with Python. Sorry.
