CHIRP

An update ... so when I go to "About this Mac" and look in the USB controllers, I can see the new Anytone cable there. If I unplug the cable and refresh, it's gone. Plug it back in and refresh and there it is. But when I go to Terminal and to /dev and type command ls I don't see the device. So somehow part of the computer is seeing the cable and yet another part doesn't. Which is why Chirp doesn't see it.

Any help you can provide?

OK so now it looks like there isn't a USB cable with a driver for Mac? I have been surfing around trying to find a driver that works without much luck. Really need some help ...

How do I do that?

OK so I think I uninstalled the FTDI driver. I found instructions at this link (http://chirp.danplanet.com/issues/1433) and in the PDF found at (http://www.ftdichip.com/Support/Documents/AppNotes/AN_134_FTDI_Drivers_Installation_Guide_for_MAC_OSX.pdf).

So I rebooted my Macbook and went back into terminal to confirm the USB cable per the instructions at (http://chirp.danplanet.com/projects/chirp/wiki/MacOS_Tips). But I don't see anything that looks like this when I kextstat in Terminal:
/dev/cu.usbserial-A501XQ5I

Still not having any luck.

OK so ... SOME progress ... I downloaded the new Prolific drivers (http://chirp.danplanet.com/projects/chirp/wiki/MacOS_Tips) for Mac by going here: http://www.prolific.com.tw/US/CustomerLogin.aspx. I then saw the USB Serial port in Chirp and proceeded to download from my Anytone 5888UV ... BUT ... after download, as it is trying to bring up the list of channels from the Anytone Chirp crashes. I downloaded from radio three times and it crashed each time when download is complete.

Any ideas???

One last update ... went back to an old build and I can download from radio. But it crashes when I try to expand the channels viewed to more than 25 in Chirp.

You haven't provided enough information. Please see how to report issues.

The problem is most likely due to the Prolific style chip in your programming cable is an unauthorized copy. The driver written by Prolific is intentionally crippled for unauthorized chip copies. A similar experience is had for users of Windows computers.

It is possible to run one of the "generic" drivers on the Mac OS Tips page to get around the issue for older Mac OS X versions but that changed with El Capitan. Purchasing this third party "USB Serial Drivers for Apple's Mac OS X":https://www.mac-usb-serial.com/ may be an option.

Getting a programming cable with an FTDI chip and using the native Apple FTDI driver would be another option.

Jim, thanks for that link to https://www.mac-usb-serial.com. Although I was able to purchase the drivers and download them and get the most recent version of Chirp to detect the USB cable and download from the radio, Chirp continues to crash immediately after download from radio when it is attempting to display the radio's program.

What do I do next?

(Tom I see your message, but from what I can tell from the link you provided, I actually have provided all the information I can think of.)

The link that Tom provided tells you how to locate the debug.log file. If you would attach the debug.log file to this issue, Tom, myself and others could look at it to help diagnose the problem.

Jim, Tom - any progress since I sent you the debug.log?

I see you are using a programming cable with a Prolific type chip (not an FTDI chip as you stated) and are getting a PangoWarning.

Searching on "PangoWarning" and looking for resolved issues and I see the resolution was to switch to a compatible device driver.

Most Prolific type chips are counterfeit and incompatible with the Prolific supplied driver. You will most likely have to purchase a 3rd party driver that is compatible with El Capitan or get a programming cable with an FTDI chip.

Hey, all - I just tried to use the latest Chirp build with my Anytone, but it crashes each time it tries to download the program. Might still be related to the programming cable. Any updates on your side?
