Tim,

This radio looks like another of many "UV-5R variants":http://chirp.danplanet.com/projects/chirp/wiki/Baofeng_UV5R_Variants. Have you tried selecting UV-5R as the model?

I thought I tried all the choices - but we have a winner using the UV-5R

Reads/Writes like a charm.....
