Description

I want to point out that the new KG-UV6D HTs from Wouxun.us (2.5 and Public Service versions) have an extended UHF frequency range: TX & RX - 136-174 & 420-520 (see attached). You might want to provide a new model selection covering those ranges like you have for the KG-UV6X or update the KG-UV6D frequency range. Just a suggestion.

More in general wouxun produce a number of KG-UV6 sub model where the only apparent difference is the frequency range.
I found where the range is stored in memory and how to decode it.
I'm now going to update KG-UV6 driver to correctly use it.

If you send an image of your radio and its frequency range it'll help me testing code.

According to the wouxun.us website and the attachment I sent, the frequency range is: TX & RX - 136-174 & 420-520. I should point out that the sticker in the battery compartment with the frequency ranges is misprinted according to Ed Griffin of wouxun.us, and the label on the box is correct. I have attached the label from the box (RadioImage.jpg) with the correct frequency ranges.

What is the status on the update and in which daily update are the changes installed?

Thanks

Sorry for delay but I'm a little busy this days, writing the changes will take me a few days more.
FYI I have (or at least I believe to have) all info needed to decode the frequency range of any KG-UV6 submodel.
I'll update this issue once the update will be ready.

Tried chirp-daily-20121013.app, but it still rejects entry of frequencies 350.000 and 520.000 MHz as "out of supported range."

I see in the memory image that your radio should accept frequencies in ranges 136-174 & 420-520 exactly as you wrote some messages ago.
This mean that radio should be able to go anywhere from 420.0000 to 519.9999 in the Uhf range, you should not be able to go outside this using radio keypad.
As per your information 350.0000 and 520.0000 are outside the available range so radio and chirp refuses to go there

Or I'm wrong and radio can go there?

For my radio, it is 420-520, but there is a commercial version that goes from 350-470 (see the "Wouxun.us KG-UV6D.pdf" document). As for not being able to use 520, I did try 519.999, with the same result. The spec for the radio does say 520 and Wouxun.us says it should be able to go to that frequency, but I can live with 519.9999 - close enough for government work.

Not sure if your fix was put into the 10/13/2012 build, which is why I waited. But a new daily build did not come out yesterday, so I tried the 13th version.

Ok, I owe you an explanation.
In the memory image is written the actual frequency range of the radio, that value is read at image load so that the software can adapt to each KG-UV6. This way the very same software check for 420-520 range when used with your radio and for 350-470 when used with a commercial version.

Now, for the 520-519.9999 question, which is the highest frequency your radio actually can be tuned?
For the information I have, your radio should go up to 519.9975 not a Hz more and this is the maximum value chirp accept.
(I'm sorry, I've written 519.9999 in the previous message, I forget to take into account the 2.5 step)

Hope this can help ... despite my bad English ;)
