Description
Hello,
In many places I've seen that CHIRP can be used with Baofeng UV-8HX radio but:
1.- I cannot see this model in the menu for Baofeng
2.- No matter which model I select it always fail.
From console output:

So far I've used two different radios and three different cables.

Hello,
I managed to connect to the radio using the UV-5R model but when uploading the configuration to the radio I've got a "not supported FW" message.

- Status changed from New to Incomplete
Fernando,
The UV-8HX has 3 power levels. So I would expect that you need to use a recent daily build and to select BF-F8HP as the model.

Hi Jim,
Thanks for your comments on this.
I use CHIRP 0.4.1. Isn't it the latest one?
I do have a BF-888 but not a BF-F8HP.
I will see if there's a more recent CHIRP version which includes this model.
I also have a Kenwood TH-G71 and so far it has worked like a charm.
Thanks again and best regards,
Fernando.

Fernando,
The CHIRP v0.4.1 release is basically the CHIRP v0.4.0 release with a single backport (and the backport failed to do what it was intended to do). So for all practical purposes the v0.4.1 and v0.4.0 releases are the same.
CHIRP v0.4.0 was released in April 2014. This was before the UV-5R style radios with 3 power levels were available (the Intek KT-980HP followed by the Baofeng BF-F8HP).
There are many other new models and changes that Baofeng has made in the last 12 months that have needed to be addressed with daily builds, so it is not recommended (by me anyway) that any Baofeng owner use the CHIRP v0.4.x stable build.
So if you want to have support for a Baofeng radio with 3 power levels, you must upgrade to a recent CHIRP daily build.

BF-F8HP seems to work for the UV-8HX
