Bug #2623
closedBaofeng uv5r+ Duplex mode improper setting
0%
Description
The Duplex mode setting is not uploading properly to my new UV5R+ radio. When I put in a '+' in the duplex column and upload it the radio displays a '+ -'. I note that the drop down list in the software shows two duplex modes apparently not available on my radio model 'none' and 'split' . The radio only shows '+', '-', or 'off', for the menu duplex slot (position #25).
When the radio is displaying the '+ -' for duplex, it displays '+' in menu position 25, where duplex mode is normally set. I am unable to alter the setting using menu position 25. The only ways I have found to clear the '+ -" display on the radio is to either 1)choose 'split' on the software (this is not an available selection on the radio menu) and upload it, or 2)select'reset all' in menu position 14.
radio firmware message #1 N5R2401,#2 BFB297.
radio 6+ power on message #1 is 141006N.
The chirp software I am using is CHIRP daily-20150530,
GTK 2.24.10
PyGTK 2.24.0
Python 2.7.2
I am not sure why some of the text is showing as strikethrough, but I cannot seem to change that. Even those sections are a valid part of this message.
Though I hold a General ticket, I am actually a newbie novice.

Dan,
The Baofeng UV-5R and variants do not store shift directions or offsets in memory channels. Instead they store the RX frequency and the TX frequency. CHIRP just lets you enter is as a + or - shift direction and an offset because that is what hams are most familiar with. Then CHIRP converts this to the RX frequency and TX frequency in the background and sends these values to the radio because that is what it requires.
Menu 25 (SFT-D) and menu 26 (OFFSET) have no meaning in the UV-5R or variants when in MR (channel) mode. They are only useful in VFO (frequency) mode. This is also because the radio does not store shift directions or offsets in memory channels.
Because the radio does not use shift directions or offsets in memory channels, the radios displays "+-" whenever the TX frequency is different from the RX frequency (repeater channels, channels with odd splits, cross-band channels and TX inhibited channels). The "+" and "-" will only display individually when the radio is in VFO mode. This is the only mode where shift direction and offset are meaningful.
What you are experiencing is normal. It is how the radio works. It has nothing to do with CHIRP. It will do the same thing if you program the radio with the OEM software or manually by using the radio's keypad.
