Description

I recently purchased three BF-888s, they appear to have the scrambler feature enabled and there is no way to turn this off in CHIRP. Is this something that CHIRP can modify or should I send the radios back?
I have tried Windows 8 and Linux Mint, both systems connect and program the radios fine but there is no option to turn the scrambler on or off.

Rob,

You can already edit this with CHIRP. The "extra features" of the BF-888s are available from the right-click -> edit menu.

Click on a memory to highlight it, or control-click and/or shift-click to highlight a group of memories. Then right-click any highlighted memory and select "Edit" from the pop-up menu. The "Beat Shift(scramble)" setting that you want to edit is at the very bottom.

I also can't edit the voice scrambler status on my BF-888s (Win 7, 0.4.0) Although the option appears at the bottom of the right-click Edit menu and can be set or reset there, only the set mode sticks If I try to disable the scrambler by unticking the box and choosing OK, then re-access the Edit menu immediately afterwards, the box appears as clicked. I've also tried disabling it for blocks of memories, but nothing clears the box permanently. The same appears to be true of the Busy Channel Lockout box above it.

Rob and Rupert,

This was fixed after the v0.4.0 stable release. You'll have to install and use a CHIRP daily build.

Hi,
I didn't realise the option was only available in the right click EDIT menu, I have managed to turn the scramer off now.
Why the radios were supplied with it enabled is beyond me, especially as using scrambler is illegal. We had been using three 888s for a few days and only found out they were scrambled when we tried to talk to a different type of radio!
What threw me was in the other screen shots showing how to toggle the scrambler function the option was on the main spread sheet grid.
Anyway, all up and unscrambled now, I was about to send them back to the seller!
Cheers guys!

And thanks - yes, switching to the daily worked wonders. I did try to find out if the issue existed before I posted, but obviously couldn't find it. Will look harder next time!
