Description

Symptom:

Trying to programme Baofeng radio using CHIRP software and getting an error: "Error reading data from radio: not the amount of data we want"

Origin:

When trying to program the device but the driver is not installed since it is provided via a mini CD which might not be ideal with newer laptops. This is not an issue when using the newer cable with FTDI chipset. I am relatively Tech Savvy and it's a shame i thought i could ignore the driver cd included and getaway with modifying the channels.

Confirmed working on Win 11/Mac and since there is no option for UV5RH at time of this post it defaulted to UV5RM which worked.

All Good, Best of Luck.

Solution:

Ok just adding to this post hopefully it helps someone:

**** IF YOU ARE USING THE BAOFENG CABLE *******

This cable will require a driver to be installed which can be sourced from their Website:

https://www.baofengradio.com/pages/download?gad_source=1&gclid=EAIaIQobChMI-res25zwhQMVPZODBx384AkAEAAYASACEgJq6fD_BwE

Offcourse they provide a mini CD disk but who still has a laptop with CD-ROM :)

If you use the other cable with FTDI chipset then installing the driver is not required.

"not the amount of data we want."
