Description

Hello, trying to program a Baofeng radio to the same setup as a Retevis RT29. The RT29 is using a DCS code of 055. That code is not available for me to program using the Chirp software. It goes from 054 to 065. I posted online and someone said to file a report and he would look into it.

That was me. I misunderstood by thinking that you were trying to program an RT29. The RT29 does support D055N/D055I but CHIRP currently doesn't when programming this radio (most radios don't so it was accidentally overlooked). So my intention was to update CHIRP to support programming D055N/D055I for the RT29.

However, the UV-5R does not support D055N (most radios don't). CHIRP can't make a radio do anything that it does not support. You will either have the RT29 radios programmed to use a DCS code that the UV-5R supports or get a different radio that supports D055N (such as another RT29).

I couldn't find the page that I wanted to reference in my first post so I didn't mention that part. It has been taken down. I finally found the page on the Internet Archive Wayback Machine.

The reason that all DCS codes aren't used in a radio is do to the way they are constructed. Many of the codes are identical to other codes. So looking up +055 in your case, you find that the following codes are the same.

D030N
D055N <-- the code you want
D527I
D764I

So programming your radio to use any of the other 3 codes (D030N, D527I or D764I) will allow your radio to communicate with the RT29 set to D055N.
